I first discovered the Neem tree on my trip to India, where it is not uncommon as a roadside tree. An extract of its fruit has been widely used in India for centuries as a pest control. While it is non-toxic to mammals, birds, plants and earthworms, Neem is a wide spectrum biopesticide, and as such should only be used as a last resort, as it will harm beneficial insects as well as pests. We spray only plants that are being attacked, only when pests are present.
