Basil found its way into American hearts, gardens and kitchens only in the 1970s. Our national love affair with basil has lost none of its passion. We certainly cannot live without this magical herb. We love the flavor and aromatics of these great big, crinkly, lettuce-like leaves that measure 3” long x 2” wide. They provide plenty of flavorful pesto, a delectable complement to tomatoes, and a attractive accent to fish entrées.
