Tomato Long Tom

Description

This sausage shaped paste tomato was one of the surprise stars of our 2002 tomato tasting. Out of the 85 or so varieties (including a dozen paste types) served up to the hundreds of visitors who stopped by, this was the favorite. Vines are strong indeterminates and the fruits are 4-6 inches long, 1-2 inches in diameter, with a pronounced point at the blossom end. The flesh is meaty and flavorful, ideal for bruschetta, sauces or drying. A great old heirloom variety you should try if you like making paste and sauce that has that old fashioned tomato flavor.
